Greater Phoenix Emerges as Spa Capital

With so many spas, as well as an endless menu of both native and innovative treatments, there’s no better place to shed the pressures of life than in Greater Phoenix. Rejuvenating your mind, body and spirit is our specialty.

You’ll find yourself being whisked away into a pampering paradise at more than a dozen resort spas in Greater Phoenix. Discover a new level of health and happiness by enjoying a therapy grounded in Native American traditions, beliefs and ingredients. The gamut runs from warm-stone therapies, aloe-vera body wraps, Sonoran Desert aromatherapy exfoliations, invigorating massages and more.

In the “World’s Best” awards by Travel + Leisure, Phoenix properties received significant recognition. In the “Hotel Spas in the United States” category, two Arizona properties were listed among the Top 10, both located in Phoenix: The Phoenician and the Arizona Biltmore.

Greater Phoenix Spa highlights:
The Phoenician’s Centre for Well-Being has long been recognized as one of the premier resort spas in the country. Located at the foot of Camelback Mountain on the 250-acre grounds of the prestigious Phoenician resort, the spa is known for its forward-thinking approach and focus on the connection of the mind, body and spirit. The 22,000-square-foot facility features 24 private treatment rooms, a complete fitness center and full-service salon. Services range from manicures to tarot card readings. The spa offers a contemporary twist on an age-old Thai treatment - Table Thaitm Massage - a traditional technique adapted to the massage table, instead of the floor.

The Arizona Biltmore Spa offers exotic treatments combining practices inspired by medieval China and the tribes of the Sonoran Desert. The spa offers numerous outdoor retreat areas as well as cascading whirlpools. The Dream Catcher is the Arizona Biltmore’s signature treatment. This ancient healing blends the senses of touch and smell, starting with a therapeutic footbath. The ritual continues with aromatherapy, warm moist towels and heating packs to ease discomfort from stress and release muscle tension.

The Phantom Horse Spa & Athletic Club at the Pointe South Mountain Resort draws on healing secrets of the earth and sea. Guests can retreat to an all-encompassing spa experience. The Phantom Horse Spa recently completed a major renovation and expansion, doubling in size and adding indoor and outdoor meditation areas to accommodate demand for its services. The full-service luxury spa now features 15 treatment rooms and was also redesigned to create a more soothing environment, including a new relaxation “sanctuary.” Signature treatments include the Sedona Mud Purification Treatment and the Desert Botanical Aroma Wrap.

The Alvadora Spa at the Royal Palms Resort mirrors the Old-World feel of the hotel. Alvadora is residential, warm, intimate and romantic. With nine treatment rooms and a variety of outdoor treatments in a garden setting, the spa celebrates the revitalizing benefits of the herbs, flowers, oils and minerals indigenous to the Mediterranean. Signature Alvadora treatments include the Acqua Dolce Ritual and the Orange Blossom Body Buff.

Agave-the Arizona Spa, at the Westin Kierland resort is a full-service spa with 20 treatment rooms, as well as saunas, message therapy, skin treatment and salon services. Agave ... simple, beautiful and truly Arizona. The people who settled in this area found the 12 species of the Agave plant, native to this region, to be an extremely valuable resource. This striking plant graces the history and landscape of Arizona, has influenced our way of life, and serves as an inspiration for Agave, The Arizona Spa. The Westin has blended this amazing treasure with effective spa products and techniques to leave you with a lasting impression and true results.

The soothing Sonoran Desert serves as a perfect setting for the JW Marriott Desert Ridge resort’s Revive Spa. The spa lobby is a two-story rotunda with a central water feature that flows directly underneath the open skylight two floors above, capturing the grand volume of the space. Water has the power to strengthen, to heal and to relax and is the inspiration for this stunning spa oasis and its 28,000 sq. ft. devoted to your health and well-being. Revive Spa’s 41 elegantly appointed treatment rooms offer a diverse menu of spa experiences that incorporate beautiful, tranquil settings and indigenous flora and fauna into signature treatments. Ancient rituals join force with cutting-edge techniques.

The Red Door Spa at The Wigwam Golf Resort and Spa is a new 26,000-square-foot facility scheduled for completion in December 2005. This newest Red Door addition is part of an aggressive expansion plan to extend the Red Door Spa experience to luxury hotel resort guests, and marks the third Red Door Spa in Arizona and the fifth at a U.S. resort property. The two-story spa facility will encompass 26,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor areas that mirror The Wigwam’s historic, signature adobe-style architecture. Amenities will include 16 luxurious treatment rooms, 10 of which will feature outdoor patios, and three of which will offer outdoor treatment areas. Additionally, two of the rooms will accommodate couples treatments.

The Golden Door Spa at The Boulders combines Asian and Native American influence to create an oasis in the middle of the Sonoran Desert. Naturally lit rooms, viga ceilings and a meandering stream are just a few of the details that add up to an environment you can’t help but relax in. The Golden Door has proved that Turquoise isn’t just for jewelry anymore. The spa’s signature Turquoise Wrap includes a Hopi blue cornmeal exfoliation and a warm clay wrap with ionized turquoise.

The Willow Stream Spa at The Fairmont Scottsdale Princess is dedicated to integrating native Arizona materials and vegetation into the spa experience. The changing lounge alone offers hours of unadulterated bliss with amenities galore, including a eucalyptus steam room, cold plunge pool, whirlpool and Swiss shower. Guests of the Willow Stream can also enjoy lunch at the spa. Its inclusive Lifestyle Cuisine menu allows you to chose from several healthy protein, fiber, carbohydrate, drink and desert choices that add up to a well-balanced meal.

Sanctuary Spa at Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain is a hip; urban retreat nestled closely to Camelback Mountain. The indoor/outdoor facility features a Watsu immersion pool for hydro treatments and a state-of-the art fitness center. One of the Valley’s best in Chinese herbal medicine, Victoria Molinger can be found at Sanctuary Spa. In a Chinese Herbal Consultation, Molinger uses traditional methods of pulse, tongue and facial evaluation to recommend personalized holistic solutions to enhance energy, increase resistance to disease and promote well-being.

The Four Seasons Spa at Four Seasons Resort was designed to blend flawlessly with the surrounding Sonoran Desert. The spa offers therapies and treatments inspired by the four seasons, and Native American rituals. After experiencing a true relief from daily life, you’ll leave this spa with a new appreciation for the healing power of nature. For an intimate couples experience, the spa offers private suites equipped with a jetted tub, shower, steam and sauna, restroom and a double massage area. Perfect for a romantic honeymoon or anniversary getaway.

The Sheraton Wild Horse Pass Aji Spa (named after the Pima word for sanctuary) invites you to embody the simplicity, serenity and lifestyle of the Pima and Maricopa culture and traditions. Through its design, story-telling art, gardens, treatments and programs, the 17,000-square-foot Aji Spa will inspire you with clarity, a renewed perspective and a sanctuary from your world of daily stress. Featuring 17 treatment rooms, salon, fitness center, a relaxing watsu pool and a traditional roundhouse, it offers the finest in spa services with a Native American flavor. Experience one-of-a-kind treatments developed from ancient rituals, including ingredients such as red clay from the Gila River, and Cholla cactus bud, to help purify and rejuvenate the body. The Blue Coyote Wrap is Aji’s signature service and combines steam aromatherapy and massage.

Spa Avania at the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale at Gainey Ranch can provide your body’s fundamental daily journey toward balance - and this is the foundation for everything at Spa Avania. Awaken in the morning. Rejuvenate at midday. Unwind in the evening. A uniquely holistic approach that bases your total-immersion experience on the inescapable cyclical needs of your body at key periods of the day - a time-focused philosophy grounded in the body’s natural daily rhythms and requirements.
